Huaca Pucllana Site Museum

Ceremonial center of the Lima culture, built between 450 and 650 A.D. using millions of handmade adobe bricks. Long after its abandonment, around 800 A.D., the top of the pyramid was used as an elite cemetery by the Wari, the first great Andean empire. The last pre-Hispanic occupation of Pucllana corresponds to the Ychsma culture, whose people, around 1000 A.D., used the structure as a repository for offerings and as a burial site.

Today, the museum offers a visitor circuit that includes a guided tour of the archaeological zone, an exhibition room displaying original artifacts recovered during excavations, and a native flora and fauna park where visitors can learn about the resources ancient Lima inhabitants used for their survival.

Pukllaywasi is an accessible and interactive space within the Pucllana Site Museum—an innovative collaboration between the museum and Cálidda, a company committed to the preservation and promotion of our city’s cultural heritage. The space is designed for all audiences, with a special focus on creating an engaging experience for people with visual impairments and children. It presents the pre-Hispanic history of Pucllana and the central coastal region through a combination of educational storytelling and tactile elements, offering a meaningful and inclusive experience for all visitors.
